The Application Concept

The Application Concept defines how a SIRIAM topical formulation is applied within its designated Application Field.

While the Application Field specifies the anatomical location, the Application Concept establishes the rationale for standardized application.

Within the SIRIAM platform, application is regarded as an anatomical process rather than simply the placement of a topical formulation on the skin.

The objective is to provide a reproducible method that consistently links the formulation to the same anatomical region.

Every Application Concept follows a fixed sequence.

This sequence ensures that each formulation is applied within a predefined anatomical context.

Within the SIRIAM platform, the primary anatomical interface for topical application is the dermatomal component of the Application Field.

The skin represents the accessible anatomical surface through which a standardized topical formulation is applied.

For this reason, each Application Field is mapped onto a predefined dermatomal territory whenever appropriate.

The dermatomal component provides the anatomical reference that links the skin surface to the broader Metameric Framework described in Chapter 4.

Although a topical formulation is placed on the surface of the skin, the SIRIAM Application Concept considers the dermis to be the principal anatomical layer associated with the standardized Application Field.

The dermis contains a rich network of:

connective tissue.

Within the SIRIAM framework, these structures provide the anatomical context that underlies the standardized application of a formulation to a dermatomally defined region.

The purpose of this concept is anatomical standardization rather than the assertion of a specific biological mechanism of action.

Epidermis

The epidermis forms the outer epithelial barrier of the skin.

Dermis

The dermis is the connective tissue layer situated beneath the epidermis.

It contains the vascular, neural and connective tissue structures that define the dermatomal region.

For this reason, the dermis forms the principal anatomical reference layer of the Application Concept.

The SIRIAM platform additionally recognizes that the skin may be described from different biological perspectives.

From an embryological viewpoint, the epidermis is derived primarily from the ectoderm, which also gives rise to the central nervous system.

Within the SIRIAM conceptual framework, this shared embryological origin is considered relevant when discussing the relationship between the skin and the nervous system.

However, SIRIAM does not assume that this embryological relationship alone determines clinical presentation or symptom localization. Individual patterns of perception and symptom experience are influenced by many biological, neurological and psychosocial factors.

This distinction preserves a clear separation between established embryology and the broader conceptual framework used within SIRIAM.

DEEL 6 — Formulation Architecture

How the formulation is designed
