The sacral plexus

L4–S4 on the posterior pelvic wall, origin of the sciatic nerve.

Formation

The lumbosacral trunk carries L4 and L5 fibres down to join S1–S4 on the anterior surface of the piriformis, forming a flat triangular plexus.

Surface field

Gluteal, posterior femoral, sciatic and pudendal branches together cover the gluteal region, posterior thigh, leg, foot and perineum.
