Within the SIRIAM Platform, D-panthenol serves as a Structural & Dermal Support Core Component contributing to the integrity and consistency of the common formulation architecture.

Its principal role is not to establish regional specificity but to support the standardized dermal environment shared across multiple magistral formulations. By contributing to the overall vehicle characteristics and skin compatibility of the platform, D-panthenol forms part of the common pharmaceutical foundation upon which regional differentiation is subsequently introduced through Regional Signature Components.

Within the Release–Integration architecture, D-panthenol is regarded as a platform-supportive ingredient rather than a phase-defining component.

Scientific rationale

D-panthenol is the alcohol analogue of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and is widely used in dermatological and pharmaceutical formulations because of its favourable skin compatibility.

After topical application, D-panthenol is converted within the skin to pantothenic acid, an essential component of coenzyme A involved in normal cellular metabolism.

Experimental and clinical studies support its ability to improve hydration of the stratum corneum, reduce transepidermal water loss and promote restoration of the epidermal barrier. Multiple controlled clinical studies have demonstrated benefits in maintaining skin hydration and supporting recovery of mildly irritated or compromised skin.

Its frequent incorporation into wound care preparations, moisturisers and post-procedural skin formulations reflects this favourable dermatological profile.

Current scientific evidence primarily evaluates D-panthenol as an isolated ingredient or within conventional topical formulations. At present, there is insufficient published evidence evaluating its incorporation into region-specific neurodermal formulation systems such as the SIRIAM Platform. Consequently, its inclusion reflects the pharmaceutical design philosophy of the platform rather than established evidence for region-specific neurodermal application.
